"Total victory for EVs requires a mass-market for cheap and cheerful little urban runabouts,"

The quote was absolutely from some unelected bureaucrat who gets to and from work everyday in a chauffeur driven limo or Range Rover. They will be flying off to some exotic location on a private jet to discuss with other socialist idiots how to keep the boot on the face of the folks while claiming it is to save the planet.

Objects in motion tend to stay in motion.
Especially when they are 1000hp 4000lbs sports cars.

I thought my 1020 hp S Plaid was heavy at 4766 pounds. But the new M5 said, "hold my beer", at 5368 pounds.

Now I'm definitely sticking with another S Plaid after this lease.

It's lighter than an ICE AMG E63 wagon and RS6 Avant. I think there's a good argument that EV and hybrid drives do not need to weigh radically more than ICE, substituting engine weight for battery weight.

Rich Americans Are Biggest Winner Of Government’s Green Subsidies, Analysis Finds
July 16, 2024
The majority of the $47 billion in green tax credits claimed between 2006 and 2021 went to high-income households, according to a new study published Monday by the National Bureau of Economic Research.
Households in the top 20% of earnings nationally received about 60% of clean energy tax credits, while the bottom 60% of households received just 10%, according to the paper written by Severin Borenstein and Lucas W. Davis, two economists at the University of California, Berkeley.

Seems Mr. EV has seen enough. Pulling up SpaceX and X from CA and pointing the trucks towards TX.

Ouch

Power grid failure and 115° in the summer might too (also winter). Texas is absolutely brutal to live in IME in the summer. I was just there two weeks back. Lack of public land set aside near population centers too.

Personally I think Texas and Florida suck in the summer but people keep going there. I guess liberty, low taxes and low cost of living "Trump" personal comfort.

The entire Southern USA is a sauna in the summer, that hasn't stopped people from CA, IL and NY from flocking there.

My parents aborted when they were essentially locked inside during the summer due to the oppressive heat (and traffic). At high altitude in the desert, the evenings/night/morning is much more pleasant, the temp at high noon is still not as high not to mention not nearly as humid, and it's overall much nicer to live with some forest and terrain nearby.

Yeah, I don't know what the drive is either, it seems the place to go when you want to give up on life. Obesity rates tell the tale IMO.
