Next gen BMW 6 Series (8 Series?!) Prototype Has Been Spotted! http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1306205 Mon, 19 Sep 2016 14:20:44 +0000 http://www.bimmerpost.com/?p=55191

Here it is, the next generation BMW 6 Series. Or, is it the 8 Series?

There’s some conflicting speculation regarding the future (or lack thereof) for the G15 6 Series Coupe. A recent report claims that the 6 Series coupe will be moved upmarket and renamed the 8 Series Coupe to do battle with Mercedes’ S-Class Coupe, while others say that the 6 Series Coupe will live on.

Whatever badge it eventually wears, it’s looking long and sleek, with design overtones from BMW’s Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupe concept.

Latest Rumors on BMW Z4, 2 Series Gran Coupe, X2, X7, 6 Series, 9 Series http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1260721 Wed, 11 May 2016 15:45:47 +0000 http://www.bimmerpost.com/?p=54241

Automobile Magazine shares what they believe are the future of several upcoming BMW models.

Summary:
• X2 coming next year
• X7 comes late 2018
• Super-luxurious edition of X7 comes 2019
• No hatchback 1 Series for next generation, replaced by 2 Series Gran Coupe instead
• No Z4 Coupe variant coming, only soft-top roadster model
• 9 Series waiting for green light. Would come as four-door coupe with twin-turbo 6 cylinder paired to two electric motors for 500hp combined. Would come in 2020 and projected to sell no more than 8,000 units.
• 3 Series GT could possibly merge with next gen 4 Series Gran Coupe
• Project iX, a 3 Series electric hatchback could be on the way
• Next gen 6 Series expected in 2018/2019 will reportedly lose the convertible version and presumably also the Gran Coupe version if the 9 Series is produced, leaving only the Coupe version. Whatever 6 Series model(s) remain, it will lose some 500 pounds using BMW’s CLAR platform, have optional air suspension, rear-wheel steering, and be powered by BMW’s quad-turbo inline 6 cylinder making 550hp, all to help it take on the 911.

Next Generation 6 Series (G15) and M6 Weight and Size Reduction Rumors http://www.6post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1065152 Wed, 03 Dec 2014 18:00:06 +0000 http://www.bimmerpost.com/?p=50479

An uncorroborated/unsourced rumor coming from CAR claims that the next generation 6 Series (G15) and M6 will shed some massive weight.

All three 6 Series variants are reportedly going on a diet, with the coupe losing over 500 pounds, to approximately 3,450 pounds and the convertible also dropping 500 pounds to 3,750 pounds. Both models are claimed to be coming down in size as well. The Gran Coupe will also be getting lighter, despite growing in size with a longer wheelbase.

The weight reductions would be in large part owed to the advanced modular architecture which we’ve been referring to as 35up for the next generation 3-series, 5-series (G30) and larger models, and which has recently been renamed CLAR, which stands for cluster architecture. CLAR introduces a lightweight advanced material mix with some carbon fiber, high-strength steel, magnesium, titanium and aluminum alloys.

Along with xDrive AWD, CAR claims new 6 and 8 cylinder engines, with the 3.0L 6 cylinder turbo making 347 horsepower, the 4.4L V8 making 476 horsepowers and the M6’s twin-turbo V8 hitting 600 horsepower.

That there are such specific weight and power figures revealed for a model not expected for a couple of years makes portions of the report somewhat dubious, but what we can safely expect is that the G15 generation of 6 Series will lose weight from the current models and that power and performance will be increased.
